A few weeks ago, my roommate Mila had her family visit our visit from upstate New York, and they threw a fried chicken brunch feast. Her mom even brought her fryer; CAN YOU BELIEVE?!

She grew up in New Orleans, so her family knows a thing or two about Southern cuisine. Her mom made her signature buttermilk fried chicken with all the delicious fixings — cheesy cauliflower Mac & Cheese, savory baked beans, and jalepeño cornbread waffles! I’ve always wanted to make my own fried chicken board, so Mila’s mom, Guelyen, really helped my dream come true.
